Inspiration for music video; Love Lost - Temper Trap

Love Lost by the Temper Trap was directed by Dougal Wilson, and is obviously a disjuncive video as there is no clear connection between the lyrics and the video. However the pace of the running fits very cleverly with the tempo of the music. It is cleverly choreographed so the excersizes and the pace of the music fits perfectly with the pace of the music and the lyrics, especially when they do the signs on the lines 'i know theres a heart, 'coz I can still hear it beating, and if you flash your heart I wont deny it, I promise' which almost will make the viewer beleive that they are telling the story. This could also give the lyrics underlying meanings. The music seems to get happier at 2:22 when the boys are jumping in the puddles in sync to the music, and they begin to dance until the P.E teacher says 'Come on, get a bloody move on' The diagetic sound of a thunderstorm is also used to emphasise the miserable weather, which helps set the scene. They also use the diagetic sound of a crow, which are always related with morbid and gloomy scenes, again this helps to set the scene. It seems that it is following a 1970's/80's P.E lesson as they have to do cross country. At 2:54 some girls run past and lip sync the song, which could imply that two people are singing this song, as if in reply to one another. As the first group was an all boy group and the second was an all girl group. The fact the girls are dressed in red could imply they are dangerous, or have the attention of the boys as they are in a brighter more attractive colour in comparison to the dull surroundings than they are.
The video then loses its sense of realism when the boys are singing ' a love was lost, lost, lost' at the end, when their dance moves are choreographed to look like they are causing explosions. This could show a build up of tension in the song and that it is being released, or could simply show the boys frustration in the fact that they are forced to do cross country in such horrible weather.
The final clip you see is a larger boy throwing up which could represent how the person who is singing this song is sick/fed up of the situation - yet he carries on running which shows that the person singing has to carry on.
The fact it is sung by children makes it more emotionally touching as when they lip sync the lyrics they have genuine emotion in their faces, this is one of the reasons why it is such an interesting video. The video has a dull tone put on it, to link with the lyrics 'A love was lost', which isn't a happy or exciting subject. The fact the children are also running through mud and the weather is drizzling adds to the effect of the lyrics, there is only natural light used to give it a more realistic effect - however the small explosions at the end almost represent a celebration as the music is using a more major tone compared to the beginning of the song. The editing is linear as it follows one story line in a linear time sequence, and there isn't an awful lot of cuts as the camera predominantly looks at the boys running. The cuts that are used are motivation cuts to show the reaction of the boys, and the P.E teacher.
The camera angles are mainly mid angles looking at the boys, until they stop to stretch then the angle becomes a high angle which could show us looking down on the boys. Close ups are used at the beginning to show the worried/upset faces of the boys. This gives the audience an enigma code which makes them want to carry on watching.
